
San Jose Tallies Two in Ninth to Drop Quakes on Wednesday

?San Jose, CA - The Quakes carried a one-run lead into the final inning on Wednesday night, but saw the Giants string together a pair of runs and walk off 8-7 at Municipal Stadium.
Rancho rolled to a pair of multi-run innings and twice jumpedout to a two-run lead before allowing the advantage to slip late. The loss puts an end to six consecutive winson the road in San Jose.
The Giants got on the board early with three runs in thefirst against Rancho starter Max Gamboa. Matt Winn struck first with a two-run double and Wander Franco circledWinn around with a double of his own.
Steve Berman helped spark a comeback third, tripling toright field and scoring on a Gavin Lux single. Omar Estevez followed with a single and Cody Thomas socked a three-runhomer the jump the Quakes in front 4-3. For Thomas, the home run was his seventh on the season against San Joseand third in as many games.
Thomas would add to the lead in the fifth, scoring Lux on anRBI-single and securing a 5-3 advantage.
Gamboa settled in nicely after being hit around early,retiring seven straight at one point and working into the fifth. The right-hander wound up allowing a two-rungame-tying homer to Heath Quinn in the frame and was replaced by Ryan Moseleyafter 4.2 innings of work.
Rancho reestablished a two-run advantage in the sixth whenBerman and Estevez laced a pair of RBI two-baggers to make it 7-5.
San Jose cut the game to 7-6 by scoring an unearned runagainst Ryan Moseley in the sixth, a score that would hold intact until thefinal inning.
In the eighth, Austin Hamilton (1-3) retired the Giants sidein order with six pitches and returned to the mound looking for the two-inningsave. Franco led off with a solo shot toleft field, tying the game at seven and sparking the rally.
Sandro Fabian singled to follow and Jacob Heyward walked toput two aboard for Quinn. Quakes manager Drew Saylor was ejected from the gamefollowing the walk, arguing the strike zone.
Quinn proceeded to deliver the game-winning base hit, scoringFabian from second and the Giants walked off 8-7 winners.
San Jose reliever Frank Rubio (1-1) recorded the win onWednesday night after tossing a scoreless top of the ninth.
The loss to the Giants forces a rubber match on Thursday asthe Quakes will send LHP Leo Crawford (3-0) to the mound. Crawford will be opposed by fellow south-pawJoey Marciano (0-2) with first pitch at 12:30 PM.
