San Jose SaberCats News Release
SAN JOSE, Calif. (April 16, 2004) - The San Jose SaberCats adjusted their active roster for Friday night's game against Chicago by activating OL/DL Rob Gatrell and FB/LB Brian Johnson off injured reserve.
Gatrell (6-5, 290, Fresno State) and Johnson (6-3, 275, New Mexico) will fill the roster spots of OL/DL Frank Beede and FB/LB Keala Keanaaina, who were both placed on injured reserve.
Beede, San Jose's starting center in each of the team's first nine games, sustained a hamstring injury last week in Dallas. Keanaaina is battling a case of bronchitis. Both players will miss a minimum of two weeks.
Gatrell, who will be playing in his first AFL game on Friday, has been on the team's injured reserve since training camp.
Johnson, originally a lineman with the SaberCats, made the switch to the fullback/linebacker position this season. He played in three games rushing for seven yards in his only attempt. He sustained a knee injury against Colorado on March 14 and was placed on IR.
