Giants Begin Four-Game Series In Visalia Tonight

The San Jose Giants open a four-game series against the Visalia Rawhide this evening at Recreation Park. Mark Reyes is slated to make the start on the mound for the Giants tonight. Reyes is 4-1 with a 2.86 ERA over his last five starts. San Jose is 4-8 versus the Rawhide this season.

Slow Start To Second Half The Giants have suffered back-to-back series losses to open the second half. San Jose began the half by dropping three out of four in Stockton before picking-up just one victory in the three-game home series against Bakersfield. Yesterday's 9-4 loss to the Blaze saw the Giants allow eight runs in the top of the fifth matching their most runs given up in an inning this season.

Giant Woes Since climbing to a season-high 12 games above .500 on June 3 (33-21), the Giants have posted just an 8-14 record. San Jose has won back-to-back games just once during the stretch (June 12-13).

Bullpen Excels During the three-game series against Bakersfield, the Giants bullpen pitched a combined 13 innings and allowed just one hit and one unearned run. San Jose's bullpen owns a stellar 2.99 ERA during the month of June.

Three Giants Promoted Three Giants hitters - outfielder Steven Duggar, shortstop C.J Hinojosa and first baseman Chris Shaw - were promoted to Double-A Richmond today. Hinojosa and Shaw were honored as California League All-Stars earlier this month. Hinojosa hit .296 with six home runs and 34 RBI's in 69 games with San Jose. Shaw ranks second in the league in home runs (16) and RBI's (55) while he's third in doubles (22) to go with a .285 batting average over 72 games. Duggar batted .284 in 70 games for the Giants this season to go with nine home runs, 30 RBI's and six stolen bases. All three players were drafted last year by the San Francisco Giants (Shaw supplemental first round, Duggar sixth round, Hinojosa 11th round). The trio joins former Giants closer Rodolfo Martinez in Richmond. Martinez, who leads the California League with 21 saves, was promoted to Double-A on Tuesday.

Dylan Davis Returns Outfielder Dylan Davis was added to the Giants roster today from Class-A Augusta. A midseason South Atlantic League All-Star this year, Davis was batting .288 with 17 doubles, four triples, eight home runs and 43 RBI's in 63 games for the GreenJackets. The former third round draft pick was leading Augusta in doubles, triples (tied), homers (tied) and RBI's. Davis played in 29 games with San Jose last season and hit .206 with three home runs. Infielder T.J. Bennett and outfielder Robbie Garvey also returned to the Giants today after brief stints with Triple-A Sacramento.

June Swoon The Giants are 10-15 in June after a league-best 21-9 record during May. San Jose has not won more than two games in a row this month. The Giants are only batting .241 as a team and averaging 3.6 runs per game in June (.260 April, .261 May). San Jose has scored over five runs just three times in 25 games this month. The Giants have been held to three runs or fewer in 13 out of 25 games in June.

At Rec Park The Giants are 3-20 in their last 23 regular season games at Visalia's Recreation Park dating back to June of 2014. San Jose has dropped five out of six games in Visalia this year. The Giants' last regular season series win at Rec Park came during the opening weekend of the 2013 season.

Bickford In Futures Game Giants starting pitcher Phil Bickford has been selected to participate in the All-Star Futures Game on Sunday, July 10 in San Diego (4 PM PT on MLB Network). Bickford, a former first round draft pick, is 1-0 with a 1.64 ERA in two starts for San Jose since joining the team from Augusta (A) on June 19. The right-hander has struck out 20 batters over 11 innings in the California League with just three hits and two runs allowed.

Opponent Notes: Visalia Rawhide The Visalia Rawhide, an affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks, have already clinched a playoff berth after winning the first half North Division title (46-24). Visalia currently leads the league in batting average (.272) and is sixth in ERA (3.97). The Rawhide boast the top overall record in the league at 49-28. Visalia is off to a 3-4 start in the second half.
