Dykxhoorn Carries JetHawks to Sweep

June 30, 2016 - California League (CalL1)
Lancaster JetHawks News Release

ADELANTO, Calif. - Brock Dykxhoorn tossed a career-high eight innings to lead the JetHawks to a 6-2 win and a sweep of the High Desert Mavericks on Wednesday night at Heritage Field.

Dykxhoorn (5-2) became the first JetHawk starter to complete eight innings this season and did so without eclipsing the 100-pitch mark. He allowed two runs on five hits and struck out four with one walk. During one stretch, the right-hander faced 16 batters without allowing a hit from the third inning until the eighth.

High Desert (45-32) did jump on the board first with single runs in the second and third innings. Josh Morgan poked an RBI-double down the right field line to put the Mavs ahead and Luke Tendler added to the lead with an RBI-double in the third.

Mavs starter Tyler Davis (3-3) set down 11 of the first 12 batters he faced before allowing a two-out double to Bryan Muniz in the fourth inning. Jason Martin followed with a game-tying two-run home run, his team-leading 13th of the season, to get the scoring started for the JetHawks.

The JetHawks (38-38) broke the 2-2 tie in the sixth inning and chased Davis from the game. Ramon Laureano and Muniz started the inning with singles. Martin, in an attempt to bunt the runners into scoring position, ended up bunting for a base hit to load the bases with no outs for Jamie Ritchie.

Ritchie, who had delivered the go-ahead double on Tuesday night, roped the payoff pitch from Davis down the left field line to score two runs and give the JetHawks a lead they would not relinquish.

Reliever Scott Williams entered the game and was promptly greeted by a run-scoring double off the bat of Keach Ballard.

Ballard added another RBI in the eighth inning with a single to score Muniz for the club's final run of the game. Ballard now has nine RBIs in his first four games with Lancaster.

Muniz finished the night 3-for-5 to follow his 4-for-4 performance on Tuesday.

The sweep brought the JetHawks back to .500 on the season and pushed them to 4-3 in the second half. The club had gone 1-7 in their previous eight games at Heritage Field this season. They have now won five games in a row against the Mavericks overall and six of the last seven against the South's first half champions.

Lancaster heads to The Diamond in Lake Elsinore to begin a four-game series against the Storm on Thursday night. Josh James (5-2) will start for the JetHawks against Enyel De Los Santos (1-1). First pitch is 7 p.m.
