
San Diego Wave FC Splits Even with Portland Thorns 1-1

San Diego, Calif. - San Diego Wave FC (5-3-0, 15 points) drew 1-1 with the Portland Thorns FC (4-1-3, 15 points) at Snapdragon Stadium on Friday night in front of 18,130 fans.
A goal by Swedish international Sofia Jakobsson in the 87th minute marked the first goal of the game. Following a ball over the top, Jakobsson took on the Thorn's backline and fired a powerful shot to the back of the net.
However, just three minutes later, Portland's Reyna Reyes evened up the match with a shot to the bottom right corner to secure the point.
Next on the schedule: San Diego Wave return to Snapdragon in five days when they host OL Reign on Wednesday, May 31 in the club's secondUKG NWSL Challenge Cupof the season. The match will be streamed live on Paramount+.

Notes:
Tonight's match marked the Wave's annual Military Appreciation Night, presented by PenFed. The match included 1,500 donated tickets to the local military members and their families, a special flyover from the U.S. Navy all-female pilot squadron and an honorary coin toss that featured two Wave staff members who are current and transitioning military. In addition, Keely Porterfield, the staff member who is transitioning out of the military, designed and executed the exclusive limited-edition merchandise.
Defender Kaleigh Riehl hit her 50th NWSL career match tonight.
Midfielder Taylor Kornieck made her first home appearance since April 1 for the Wave since returning from injury.
San Diego Wave have stopped the opposition from scoring a first-half goal in seven of their nine games, more than any other team in the NWSL this season.
