Chicago Stars FC News Release
CHICAGO - A night filled with record breaking performances and milestones ends with smiles for the Chicago Red Stars who took down the Orlando Pride 1-0. With 5,646 fans in attendance, tonight becomes the fifth highest attended game in Red Stars history.
KEY MOMENTS:
5' After Orlando's defense is forced into turning over possession by Julia Bianchi, Bianca St-Georges receives Bianchi's cross and evades another Orlando defender while bringing the ball into the box. St-Georges shot arcs into the hands of Orlando goalkeeper, Anna Moorehouse.
10' Orlando crosses a ball into the six-yard box that bounces around before a weak shot by Orlando's Haley McCutcheon is wrangled by a diving Alyssa Naeher.
22' Tierna Davidson launches a free kick from the midfield, where Casey Krueger gains control before sending a cross high into the box for Yuki Nagasato, who heads the ball and sends it into the back of the net, putting Chicago on the board first.
38' Bianchi steals the ball out of Orlando's possession just inside Orlando's half and powerfully lofts it up the right side of the field. St-Georges sprints to save the ball from going out and sends a cross into the goal, but it's saved by Orlando before a Red Star can complete the finish.
49' Chaos in a crowded box allows an Orlando player to send in a shot, which is first deflected into the air off Alyssa Naeher before she tips it out of play.
70' A free kick awarded to Orlando high in their attacking half creates an all-hands-on-deck situation in the box for Chicago, but the Red Stars remain unphased and easily clear the ball out of danger.
GAME NOTES:
With Alyssa Naeher's fifth save in the 49th minute of play, the keeper surpassed Ashlyn Harris' 518 regular-season career saves record to become the keeper with the most regular-season saves in National Women's Soccer League history. Following the match, Naeher was celebrated for a number of recent milestones, including tonight's regular season saves record, her 150th regular-season appearance and 500 career saves.
Cari Roccaro also added to the list of Red Stars achieving milestones tonight, recording her 100th regular-season appearance. Before coming to Chicago in 2023, Roccaro also collected appearances in Houston Dash, North Carolina Courage and Angel City FC jerseys.
Completing the theme of regular-season milestones for Red Stars tonight, Yuki Nagasato joined the regular-season "20/20" club (20 goals and 20 assists) with her goal in the 22nd minute.
