January 19, 2020 - Major Arena Soccer League (MASL)
San Diego Sockers News Release
The Sockers (7-1) conclude a four-match homestand with their first-ever meeting against the Mesquite Outlaws, a MASL expansion franchise from the Dallas/Fort Worth area in Texas.
The Outlaws enter the game with a 4-5 record (2-1 road) after beating the Cal Express 5-3 in Turlock on Saturday night before traveling to San Diego today.
The Sockers are riding a seven-match winning-streak, including a 4-3 win over the Ontario Fury in their last fixture on January 5. After facing Mesquite, San Diego will head out on a six-match road trip, and play nine of ten away from Pechanga Arena.
Slavisa Ubiparipovic leads the Sockers in goals (9) and points (15). Goalkeeper Boris Pardo is coming off a season-best 17 save performance against the Fury.
The Sockers expect the return of several key players to the lineup after injury concerns, including midfielder Hiram "Pollo" Ruiz and forward Kraig Chiles. Taylor Bond broke out in San Diego's previous match with two goals and an assist, his top scoring night in two seasons with the club.
The Outlaws have played a home-heavy schedule with mixed results, going 2-4 in Texas so far this season. Three of Mesquite's five losses have come against top MASL clubs Monterrey and Milwaukee.
Indoor veteran and former Socker Jamie Lovegrove wears the captain's armband for Mesquite, and leads the club in goals (8) and points (12). VcMor Eligwe, ex-of the Dallas Sidekicks, has seven goals and eleven points for the Outlaws. Rookie goalkeeper Eduardo "Pollo" Cortes has a .722 save percentage and 4.49 GAA in seven matches played.
