SAN ANTONIO - A River Stevens grand slam in the 10th inning Tuesday night sent the Missions to a 6-2 walk-off win and a series victory before a crowd of 5,067 at Wolff Stadium.

The Missions have won five consecutive games, with three coming in their last at-bat.

Aaron West (5-2), who worked a 1-2-3 9th inning, surrendered a one-out single to Rocky Gale in the 10th. Chase Jensen deposited a double into the right-field alley, prompting an intentional walk of lead-off hitter Franchy Cordero. Stevens then clubbed a 1-2 pitch over the wall in right, sending the frenzied faithful home happy. The slam marked his second home run in as many nights.

Lost in the fireworks was the Double-A debut of Trent Thornton. The 22-year-old from Charlotte, NC, retired the first 10 Missions he faced. Stevens broke the string with a seeing-eye single up the middle in the fourth. With two away, Nick Schulz launched a two-run home run down the left-field line, staking San Antonio to a 2-0 lead.

Schulz has two homers and six RBIs in the two-game set.

Thornton issued one walk and fanned five over six innings of work. He threw 58 of 87 pitches for strikes.

Missions starter Seth Simmons held the Hooks to four hits over the first six frames. A Ramon Laureano lead-off homer in the seventh snapped Simmons' scoreless streak of 21 1/3 scoreless innings.

Corpus Christi evened the score in the eighth. Derek Fisher was plunked by Brad Wieck to begin the frame. Fisher stole second and advanced to third when catcher Rocky Gale's throw sailed into center field. J.D. Davis sent him home with an RBI single which deflected off the pitcher, Adam Cimber.

Jimmy Brasoban worked 1 2/3 shutout frames, stranding a pair of Hooks in scoring position.

Jason Jester (2-1) earned the victory by tossing a perfect 10th.

Ryan Thompson and Chris Cotton provided effective relief for the Hooks. Thompson retired all four men he faced and Cotton worked around a single in the eighth.

Corpus Christi aims to salvage a game in the series Wednesday night. Lefty Tim Berry (0-1, 8.64) provides the opposition. Francis Martes (5-4, 4.08) goes for the Hooks. This story was not subject to the approval of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues or its clubs.
