San Antonio FC Hosts USL Championship Title Holders in Season Opener

SAN ANTONIO - San Antonio FC will open the 2020 USL Championship season as they host 2019 title winners Real Monarchs SLC on Saturday, March 7 at Toyota Field. The match kicks off at 7:30 p.m. with a complimentary postgame fireworks to follow immediately after the final whistle.

In addition to the fireworks show, the night will feature $1 beer and sodas courtesy of Bud Light during the match, while the postgame festivities will include 'Extra Time,' the official SAFC postgame party which consists of live music, games, and drinks. The first 2,000 fans at the match will receive a rally towel courtesy of H-E-B as well as an SAFC matchday poster, while the first 5,000 fans who are over the age of 21 will receive a 2020 magnet schedule presented by Bud Light.

SAFC will look to continue their streak of unbeaten home openers after compiling a 2-0-2 record in their first match at home each season since the club's 2016 inaugural campaign. The club's biggest home opener win came in the 2017 season when they beat LA Galaxy II 3-0, while last season the team played to a thrilling 3-3 draw against Phoenix Rising FC, the reigning Western Conference champions at the time.

The Alamo City club will look to build on a 2019 campaign that saw the team's highest scoring output to date with 62 goals scored across 34 matches. At the same time, the club will ring in a new era with head coach Alen Marcina at the helm and a roster that includes seven returners from 2019, along with 16 new players and five who were added on USL Academy agreements prior to the 2020 season.

Real Monarchs will travel to Toyota Field after claiming the 2019 USL Championship title with a comeback win against Louisville City FC. The Monarchs will look to build on their 2019 campaign which saw the club finish fourth in the Western Conference standings with a 16-8-10 record, however SAFC will look to remain unbeaten at home against the club after posting a 2-0-1 all-time record when facing them at Toyota Field.
