San Angelo Colts News Release
San Angelo Colts lefty closer Michael Hacker is going back to affiliated baseball, getting signed by the Red Sox after Monday night's double-header. "I'm really excited to go out their and show them what I got", said the elated Hacker. Michael who did not close out game two of the twin bill, in what turned out to be his final appearance as a member of San Angelo's bullpen, instead came in the sixth inning of a seven inning contest with several lefties due up. Michael pitched one inning and after giving up a leadoff single struck out the side, fanning the next three hitters. It was after the game that Michael found out there was a Red Sox scout in the stands and that he had been signed by Boston to be a part of their organization.
Michael Hacker becomes the first member of the 2010 San Angelo Colts to be signed by an affiliated team. Colts Manager Doc Edwards no stranger to getting players back to affiliated teams, has sent over 30 players back to affiliated baseball since joining the United League as the Colts skipper in 2006. Doc a former major league, player, manager, and scout who Hacker credits a great deal of his current success to said of Hacker "He has what you are looking for in a lefthander showing 95-96 MPH, and when we have players of those standards it allows me to send a player to an organization. If players here have talents that meet major league standards then I have an opportunity to get them a job."
Hacker was drafted twice while attending Consumus River (CA) College. Michael was drafted first by the Minnesota Twins in the 15th round of the 2005 MLB June Amateur and again by the Houston Astros in the 25th round of the 2008 MLB June Amateur Draft. Hacker spent two season in the Houston organization from 2008-2009 spending time in both the NY-Penn and Sally Leagues. In 21 appearances with the Colts this season Hacker had a 0-2 record with 10 saves (good for third in the ULB) with a 3.68 ERA. In 22 innings pitched he allowed 24 hits, walking just seven, while striking out 26.
