Cunningham holds down Thunder and offense score a lot of runs as San Angelo wins big

Robstown, TX---With the Colts taking both ends of a double-header on Monday San Angelo was looking to take three of four in the finally on Tuesday. San Angelo would leave no doubt about this one with a pair of five run innings early, winning by a score of 13-8.

The Colts scored quickly and often in this one, getting five runs in back-to-back innings in the second and third. Frank James was wild in the second as the Colts scored the five runs on just four hits with James hitting two batters, walked one as ten men came to the plate and the Colts lead 5-0.

Coastal Bend counted with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second on single by Dustin Smith that drove home two to make it 5-2.

San Angelo had their second straight five run inning in the third as they batted around again this time sending nine men to the plate to take a commanding 10-2 lead.

They added solo runs in the fifth and the sixth to take a ten run lead at 12-2.

Coastal Bend received a little Thunder from Lamar Guy (4) who hit a solo blast that made the score 12-3.

Colts added a run in the top of the eighth on an RBI single by Ronnie Gaines, his third run driven in of the game, and it was 13-3 San Angelo.

Coastal Bend would score five times in the bottom of the ninth as they sent eleven men to the plate to make it interesting, but it was too little to late as the Colts win 13-8. The big story here despite the bakers dozen of runs, was starting pitching for San Angelo as southpaw Aaron Cunningham went seven innings, allowed three runs on three hits, while walked one and striking out one to earn the victory.

The Colts have an off day on Wednesday, but then return home to Foster Field to take on the same Coastal Bend Thunder beginning Thursday in a four game series. In game one the Colts will send out right-hander Brian Henschel (4-4, 5.77) against righty Carlos Rangel (4-4, 5.20) for the Thunder.

It all begins with the Kemps pre-game show beginning at 6:50 with the first pitch set for 7:05 on 1260 KKSA.
