Kenny Gilbert Knocks in Five as Broncos Win

The Broncos scored three runs in the seventh and eighth innings to walk away with the 11-5 victory over the Road Runners in the series finale at Veterans Field. Nick Mahin had four RBI's and Kenny Gilbert knocked home five in the game.

RHP Santo Hernandez (5-3), after being scratched from the start yesterday due to headaches was back on the mound for his 11th start of 2010 for the Broncos. Hernandez, making his third start against Edinburg faced off against RHP Eric Montoya (6-2) for the Road Runners.

Edinburg put a three spot on the board in the top of the second against Hernandez and the Broncos. Robert Matlock singled and after Alexis Hernandez flew out and Vincent Blue singled. Osiel Flores then walked to load the bases and with two down Wilmer Pino hit a two run single to put the Road Runners up 2-0. A throwing error on a stolen base attempt by Wilmer Pino allowed Flores to score from third and the score was 3-0 Road Runners.

That amounted to about all the offense mustered by the Road Runners in the game; it was all Broncos from this point on.

Laredo got on the board in the bottom of the second with a lead off double by Salvador Paniagua, a ground out moved him to third and he came home on the sacrifice fly by Nick Mahin to make the score 3-1 Edinburg.

The score remained 3-1 Road Runners until the bottom of the fifth when the Broncos took their first lead of the night. D.J Dixon was hit by a pitch and reached second base safely on a throwing error committed by Melvin Perez that allowed Doug Thennis to reach base as well. Flynn then struck out and Diaz singled to load the bases. Mike Murphy came up and knocked in one run with an RBI single to make the score 3-2 Edinburg. The next batter was Kenny Gilbert and he hit a two run double to give the Broncos the 4-3 lead. Salvador Panigua then brought home Murphy from third base with a sacrifice fly and the score was 5-3 Broncos.

The Broncos added three more runs in the bottom of the seventh after the Road Runners committed two errors that loaded the bases. Nick Mahin hit a three run triple to make the score 8-3 Broncos. Mahin went one for three with four RBI in the game.

In the bottom of the eighth Kenny Gilbert hit a three run, bases clearing double that gave the Broncos an 11-3 lead. Gilbert was two for five in the ball game with five RBI and a run scored.

LHP Thomas Vessella (0-0) came on in the eighth and pitched the final two innings.

Hernandez pitched seven solid innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits, he walked four and struck out six while picking up win number five on the season.

The Road Runners brought home two runs in the ninth to make the final score 11-5, the Broncos by picking up the victory in the series finale won the series against the Road Runners three games to one and completed a home stand where they went 6-3 against the Coastal Ben Thunder and the Edinburg Road Runners.

The Broncos have an off day tomorrow before jumping on their bus and heading to Amarillo to take on the Dillas in a four game series. Game one is Thursday July 22nd, first pitch at 7:05 PM.
