SAN ANGELO- Two newcomers from the local professional baseball franchises allowed the San Angelo Colts to defeat the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings, 7-3, at Foster Field Friday night.

Demetrius Banks, acquired from the McAllen Thunder on Aug. 8, won his third straight game for the Colts with a quality start, allowing three runs through six innings while scattering nine hits.

Meanwhile, Salvador Paniagua, acquired in a trade with the WhiteWings (48-37) on Aug. 12, collected three hits and drove in three runs, including a 2-run, two out double with the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth inning off Alberto Reyes that gave the Colts (45-41) the final runs of the game.

As they did on Thursday in a 13-1 victory, the Colts enjoyed a big first inning, scoring four runs in the first inning off Luis Noel. The highlight of the inning game when Cory Patton hit a 2-run double down the first base line to drive in the first two runs off Noel (8-3), who pitched seven innings, allowed five earned runs, and gave up 12 hits.

Erik Draxton got Alex Ruiz to fly out to centerfield with the bases loaded in the ninth inning to earn his 22th save of the year to tie a Colts record.

The Colts clinched the final playoff berth in the United Division with the victory and Abilene's loss to Fort Worth. The WhiteWings and Colts play in the third game of their four game series Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. with Cole Stephens (6-5) pitching against San Angelo's Brian Henschel.
