Fort Worth Cats News Release

ABILENE, TX - Early on it looked like a pitcher's duel between Trevor Harden and Erik Gonsalves, but the Prairie Dogs bullpen allowed seven runs over the final three innings as the Cats earned their tenth victory of the season in Abilene, 11-6.

Trevor Harden entered the game on a 16 inning scoreless streak against Abilene, but the Dogs scratched out a pair of first inning runs on the right hander from Florida. Left fielder Braden Embry hit a sinking liner to center that rattled out of the glove of center fielder RJ Harris to plate a pair of unearned runs for Abilene.

Staked to a 2-1 lead, Erik Gonsalves settled into a nice groove before his defense faltered in the fourth inning. With two on and two out, Harris knocked a base hit to center to score Brandon Jones. Then a throwing error by catcher Zach Welch on a return throw to the pitcher allowed the Cats to grab the lead. Harris came in later on an error by third baseman Clint Stroud to make it 4-2 Cats.

Abilene responded with a run in their half of the fourth that went unearned when Clint Stroud reached on an error by Cats' third baseman Jon Dziomba. Dziomba tracked a pop fly on the infield but it kicked off the heel of his glove, Stroud came in to score on Jason Venya's fielder's choice.

The Dogs tied the game in the sixth on a throwing error by Trevor Harden but missed an opportunity to take the lead and left the bases loaded to end the sixth.

In the seventh, Fort Worth broke the game open against Derrick Dingeman who allowed multiple runs in an outing for just the second time this season. Newest Cat Adam Gordon's RBI single gave the Cats the lead, 5-4. Jones followed and hit a sure double play ball to shortstop. However, Venya mishandled the turn in the middle, and every Cat was safe, loading the bases once again.

Fort Worth left fielder Kenny Gilbert followed with a two-run double that broke the game open. The Cats went on to score six runs (five earned) in the inning.

The game was marked by sloppy defense on both sides as Trevor Harden allowed just one earned run (five total) over seven innings to pick up his ninth win of the season and fourth against Abilene. The Cats had six errors in the game, two apiece by infielders Jon Dziomba and Adam Gordon. Abilene had three errors of their own.

Fort Worth had every starter in their lineup except for catcher Derek Marshall score a run, while every starter except Dziomba drove in a run. Each Cat had a hit in the game as Fort Worth banged out 12 hits on their way to their tenth win of the season in Abilene.

It was the home finale at Walt Driggers Field as the Dogs finish up 10-21 at McMurry University.

The Prairie Dogs and Cats continue their five game series as they will both travel to Fort Worth for a doubleheader on Saturday night. A pair of seven innings will begin at 6:05 at LaGrave Field. Tickets can be purchased online at FWCats.com or by phone at (817) 332-CATS.
