Lincoln Saltdogs News Release

LINCOLN, NEB. - So much for taking some time off. Lincoln Saltdogs manager Tim Johnson is heading south of the border and returning to the bench for some off season work. The 2006 American Association Manager of the Year, Johnson has been named the manager of the Guasuve Cotton Growers of the Mexican Pacific League, which is regarded as the top professional winter league in Mexico.

For Johnson, it will be his 14th season managing in Mexico since 1988. He takes over a club that is off to a 5-17 start to the 2006-07 season and has already fired two managers. The Mexican Pacific League campaign runs through December 30 followed by the playoffs, which end in February. Johnson will then return to Lincoln to skipper the Saltdogs for his fifth season, which gets underway May 11 at Pensacola.
