Lincoln Saltdogs News Release
LINCOLN, NE - The Lincoln Saltdogs signed left-handed pitcher Donald Furrow on Thursday, making him the second player to ink a 2010 contract with the team. Although he still has rookie status, Furrow is entering his third season of professional baseball.
Furrow didn't play much in 2009, appearing in just four games for Coastal, a traveling team in the Continental Baseball League. He started his pro career in 2008 with McKinney of the Continental League, posting a stellar 1.76 ERA in six starts and one relief outing. Donald also appeared in three games for St. George of the Golden League that season. Furrow has never lost in the pros, sporting a 4-0 career record, and has yet to allow a home run.
"Donald is the kind of prospect who just needs a chance to show what he can do," said Saltdogs manager Marty Scott. "He didn't really get that chance last season, but the numbers he put up two years ago show the kind of potential he has. We'll give him a good look in spring training this season."
Furrow was born in Australia, and should feel comfortable joining a league that's showcased the talents of several Aussie-born players over the past few seasons. Donald spent the final two collegiate seasons of his career at Texas Christian, going 5-1 with three saves during that time.
Season Ten of Saltdogs Baseball begins on May 13 in Sioux Falls, with the home opener scheduled for May 25 against Wichita. For more team and ticket information, go to www.saltdogs.com.
