Pensacola Pelicans News Release
The Pensacola Pelicans announced today the re-signing of James Gamble as Player Procurement Director and Justin Lord as Pitching Coach for the 2010 season. Gamble will be responsible for scouting, recruiting, and signing players along with GM/Field Manager Talmadge "T" Nunnari. Lord will handle pitcher development and joins the staff with Field Manager Nunnari.
The Pelicans have reached the post-season every year Gamble has been the Player Procurement Director.
Gamble, a Lafayette, LA native, has worked in professional baseball for over 20 years and with the Pelicans since their inception in 2002. He has served in a variety of roles in his career from player to Assistant GM, GM and up to League Commissioner of the Southeastern League of Professional Baseball in 2002. Gamble has also scouted and coached in Korea, Mexico, and Italy in addition to playing and managing. He also founded the Global Scouting Bureau in 1998 which assists players in obtaining professional placement.
"James knows how to find the caliber of players we need to succeed," said Nunnari. "He has relationships with scouts and coaches all over the country and is well respected in the baseball industry."
Lord will be in his second year with the Pelicans and in his second season as a professional coach. Lord coached the Pelicans pitching staff to a second best record in the league going 53-43 with a fourth place league finish in ERA of 4.47 in his first year. In addition to reaching the playoffs in his first season, his pitching staff led the league in 2009 in strike outs (658), shut outs (8), and in strike out/walk ratio (1.93). Lord also coached the number one pitcher in the American Association last season, Kyle Middleton, to a 5-2 record with a 1.75 ERA in 13 starts, which led to him signing with the Oakland Athletics.
"I was impressed with Justin as a player and now even more as a person," commented Pelicans General Manager Talmadge Nunnari. "He'll be a good addition to our team once again and will relate well to our pitching staff. I expect him to come in here and make an immediate impact like last season."
