Lincoln Saltdogs News Release

LINCOLN, NE - The Lincoln Saltdogs suffered another tough loss on Thursday, losing 5-4 to Wichita at Haymarket Park. Lincoln drops to 37-28, 8-9 in the second half.

With the game tied at four in the top of the ninth, the Wingnuts' Eric Williams led off by being hit by a pitch from Adam Daniels (6-2). Williams went to second on a groundout, and back-to-back walks loaded the bases. Daniels then uncorked a wild pitch that brought Williams home with the decisive run. Wichita closer Justin Dowdy pitched a scoreless ninth for his 15th save.

Lincoln got a solid start out of newly-signed Jake Marceaux, who allowed three runs on seven hits in 5.1 innings pitched. Wichita opened the scoring in the fourth on an RBI double by Mario Delgado, but the Saltdogs took advantage of a pair of Wingnuts errors in the fifth to plate a pair of runs. Rafael Alvarez had an RBI double in the frame, and Juan Camacho drove in a run on a fielder's choice.

The Wingnuts scored three times in the sixth to take a 4-2 lead, getting a solo home run from Jorge Cortes and RBI doubles from Jeff Christy and Steve Pearson. Lincoln, however, had another answer in the seventh. Alvarez led off the inning with a single, and one out later, Argelis Nunez cracked a game-tying home run, his 13th homer of the season. The 'Dogs managed only one hit the rest of the way, however, and Wichita's Cephas Howard (2-2) pitched 1.2 scoreless innings of relief for the win.

Alvarez finished the night 3-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI and two runs scored. Camacho had the only other multi-hit night for Lincoln, going 2-for-3.

Lincoln now opens a three-game home series against Sioux Falls that begins Friday night at 7:05pm. Right-hander John James will take the mound for the Saltdogs.
