Lincoln Saltdogs News Release

LINCOLN, NEB. - The Lincoln Saltdogs took the field at Haymarket Park for the first time in 2008, but fell to 0-3 in the preseason with a 5-2 loss to Sioux City. The Saltdogs were nickeled-and-dimed to death, as 13 of the Explorers' 15 hits were singles.

Lincoln starter Ryan Trytten lasted just 2 1/3 innings, allowing eight hits even though he only surrendered two runs. Nebraska native R.D. Spiehs was the most effective of the five Saltdog hurlers, giving up no runs on just two hits in 2 2/3 innings of work. Right-hander Amad Stephens also pitched well, but the only baserunner he allowed in his two innings was a solo home run.

At the plate, no Saltdog was able to get more than one hit, and they totaled just six for the contest. The Dogs scored their two runs in the 7th inning without the benefit of a hit. They drew three straight walks to start the inning, then scored their first run when Luis Perez earned a tough RBI by getting hit with a pitch. Ben Tinius followed with a sacrifice fly, pulling Lincoln within a run at the time, but that was as close as they would get.

The Saltdogs return to action on Friday, May 2nd at Christenson Field in Beatrice, NE, when they take on the Wichita Wingnuts at 7:05pm. Lincoln then heads to Kansas City, KS for a pair of spring games on May 3rd and 4th, and wraps up the exhibition schedule with a contest at Shreveport on May 6th.
