Lincoln Saltdogs News Release
LINCOLN, NE - The Lincoln Saltdogs continue to reshape their roster in advance of the second half of the season, adding three new players during the final series of the first half. Lincoln has signed outfielder Curt Miaso, right-handed pitcher Adam White and left-handed pitcher Dan Knox as free agents, while releasing left-handed pitcher Mark Goodman and right-handed pitcher Calen Sutton.
The 22-year-old Miaso signed with Lincoln on Friday, becoming the fourth free agent to join the Saltdogs this week. He played with St. Joseph in 2007, where he was a teammate of Lincoln first baseman Dustin Yount and was coached by Saltdogs hitting coach Pete LaCock. Curt hit .251 with eight home runs and 39 RBI in 92 games for the now-defunct Blacksnakes, serving as the team's everyday right fielder. Like Yount, Miaso then played a handful of games at the end of the year with New Jersey in the Can-Am League, hitting .211 in 19 at-bats. Miaso was drafted out of high school in 2004 by the Philadelphia Phillies, who selected him in the 42nd round. He made his professional debut in 2005, spending two seasons with the Phillies' rookie-level team in the Gulf Coast League. Over the weekend, Miaso hit .417 in his first three games as a Saltdog.
On Saturday, the Saltdogs added the 22-year-old White to their bullpen. White grew up in Lincoln and attended Northeast High School. He began his college career at Bellevue University near Omaha, before playing his final two seasons at Midland Lutheran College in Fremont. Adam showed great control on the mound at Midland Lutheran, striking out 101 batters and walking just 38 over two seasons, and was named to the all-conference second team his senior season. White made his professional debut with Wichita earlier this month, posting a 6.00 ERA in three games for the Wingnuts. His best outing there was his final one, when he allowed just two hits and struck out three over 2 1/3 innings against Shreveport. White made his Saltdogs debut on Sunday, retiring all five batters he faced.
Less than an hour before Sunday's game, Lincoln signed Knox, the sixth free agent to join the team in the past seven days. The 23-year-old Knox recently wrapped up his college career at Mayville State in North Dakota, where he earned 2008 Pitcher of the Year honors in the Dakota Athletic Conference. He went 4-1 in conference play with a save, posting a 1.69 ERA and holding conference hitters to a .203 batting average. Dan displayed excellent control throughout the season, striking out 82 batters and walking just 22. He was also honored as the NAIA Region 3 Pitcher of the Year. Knox made his professional debut less than two hours after signing with Lincoln, pitching 4 1/3 innings against Grand Prairie.
Goodman appeared in just two games for Lincoln, allowing four runs in two innings of work. He had joined the Saltdogs after being released by Pensacola, where he appeared four times against Lincoln in the first month of the season. Sutton, who was one of three free agents signed by Lincoln last Monday, also made two appearances, allowing 13 runs in 6 2/3 innings pitched.
