WINNIPEG, MB - The Winnipeg Goldeyes (10-5) lost 11-1 to the Lincoln Saltdogs at Shaw Park on Friday night.

The Saltdogs scored the first run of the game in the top of the second on a Randolph Oduber fielder's choice.

In the bottom of the second, Andrew Sohn lined a one-out single to centre and took third when Wes Darvill's groundball to second resulted in a throwing error. Mason Katz tied the game on a fielder's choice groundball to third.

Lincoln took the lead for good in the top of the third. With Cesar Valera on third base and two outs, Christian Ibarra brought home the go-ahead run with an infield single. After Tommy Mendonca singled to left, Trever Adams hit a three-run home run to left that opened up a 5-1 lead.

The teams waited through a one hour and 44-minute rain delay before resuming play in the top of the fifth. Lincoln added two more when Mendonca tripled home Ibarra and later scored on a wild pitch.

Valera hit an RBI triple in the top of the seventh to make it 8-1. Valera then scored on a Curt Smith groundout to third base.

Brandon Jacobs closed out the scoring with a two-run home run to left in the top of the eighth.

Zack Dodson (1-1) started for the Goldeyes and took the loss, allowing seven earned runs on seven hits in five innings. Dodson walked three and struck out five.

Matt Portland (1-0) earned the win with four shutout innings in relief of Lincoln started Carlos Pimentel who did not return after the rain delay.

Pimentel allowed one unearned run on four hits in four innings. Pimentel walked none and struck out five in a no-decision.

Mitchell Lambson struck out two during a scoreless top of the ninth for Winnipeg. The Goldeyes' pitching staff combined for 11 strikeouts.

David Rohm extended his hitting streak to 11 games with an infield hit in the bottom of the seventh. Darvill had an eight-game hitting streak come to an end.

Josh Laxer, who was acquired from the Saltdogs earlier in the week, made his Goldeyes' debut and struck out two batters over two innings.

Game two of the three-game series is Saturday evening at 6:05 p.m. Mikey O'Brien (2-1, 5.87) takes on right-hander Seth Webster (0-1, 3.75).
