Texas AirHogs News Release
CLEBURNE, Texas -- The AirHogs dropped their series opener to the Cleburne Railroaders 6-0 at The Depot Friday evening. Ryan Wagner finished the evening with 2 hits and 2 men caught stealing.
Start time at The Depot was delayed 85 minutes due to heavy rain and subsequent preparation of the field. Scott Firth got the start for the AirHogs and surrendered 4 runs (just 2 earned), struck out 4 and issued 5 walks while pitching into the 5th. Griffin Russell and Billy Waltrip each surrendered a run in relief.
The Cleburne attack was led by Brandon Tierney and Shawn Zarraga, each of whom scored 2 runs. Maikol Gonzalez picked up 2 RBIs vs. Firth with a 2-RBI single in the 4th.
Wagner, who caught 2 runners stealing while playing catcher early in the game, was the only AirHog with multiple hits in the game. The team managed 7 hits vs. starter Jorge Martinez and the Cleburne bullpen. Ryne Willard's 6th inning double was the only extra base hit of the game for the AirHog bats. The team finished with 7 left on base.
Martinez improved to 1-1 with the win, while Firth dropped to 1-2 despite a 1.65 earned run average this season. The Railroaders (7-9) and the AirHogs (4-10) meet again tomorrow for a 7:06 2nd game at The Depot. LHP Michael Freeman is expected to get his 1st start of the season for Texas vs. RHP Brandon Quintero for Cleburne. A live stream of the game will be available at mixlr.com/TXAirHogs.
