Lincoln Saltdogs News Release
LINCOLN, NE - The Lincoln Saltdogs made their first acquisition of the 2008-2009 offseason today, acquiring left-handed pitcher Kevin Piccirillo from the Reno Silver Sox of the Golden League. The deal completes the June 18th trade between the two clubs, when Reno received outfielder Ross McCoy for a player to be named.
Piccirillo pitched in nine games for Reno in 2008, compiling a 2-2 record and a 5.52 ERA. He made three starts, including a seven-inning complete game win over Yuma in his final outing of the season. Kevin played collegiately at the New Mexico Military Institute, where his four wins and 3.32 ERA led the team in his final season of 2006. Piccirillo also played in the developmental New York State League. When he makes his first appearance for Lincoln, he'll become the fourth NYSL player to play for the Saltdogs, joining teammate Brian Campbell, as well as former Saltdogs Joe Dempsey and the man he was traded for, Ross McCoy.
McCoy was plagued by injuries during his time with Lincoln, and was hitting .217 with a home run and five RBI for the Saltdogs when he was dealt to Reno in June. He played in 66 games for the Silver Sox after the trade, batting .260 with ten homers, 38 RBI and 12 stolen bases.
