Salt Lake doubles up on Tucson

The Salt Lake Bees scored seven runs in the first two innings and defeated the Tucson Padres 8-4 Friday at Spring Mobile Ballpark.

James Darnell gave the Padres an early lead in the top of the first with an RBI double to bring home Travis Buck. In the bottom half of the inning the Bees went ahead 2-1 after three consecutive doubles to begin the frame. Salt Lake added five runs in the second on five hits including a two-run double from Efren Navarro.

Tucson grabbed three runs back in the third inning on an RBI groundout by Daniel Robertson and a two-run home run by Travis Buck. Luis Rodriguez extended the Bees lead to 8-4 in the sixth with an RBI single to left.

Matt Shoemaker earned the win for Salt Lake, while Thad Weber was charged with his first loss of the season with Tucson. It was the third time this year that the two pitchers have faced each other and the first time that Shoemaker came out on the winning end. Shoemaker struck out seven in seven innings and Weber threw 2.1 scoreless innings after surrendering runs in the first two frames.
