Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
LAST NIGHT'S SHUTOUT: Five pitchers combined on a three-hitter as Omaha shut out New Orleans, 1-0, Thursday night to salvage the last of a rain-shortened three-game series at Zephyr Field. The Storm Chasers halted a three-game slide to improve to 15-11 and maintain their hold on first place. Everett Teaford made a spot start for Omaha and made the most of it, as he retired all 12 batters he faced before reaching his pitch limit. Louis Coleman took over in the fifth but Paul Gran spoiled the visitors' bid for perfection with a leadoff double in the sixth.
OMAHA VS MEMPHIS : Tonight's game will mark the 206th meeting between Memphis and Omaha (100-105, all in the Pacific Coast League), as the Redbirds are one of six current PCL teams Omaha has played more than 200 games against and one of four teams entering this season Omaha had at least 100 wins against. Omaha has won only one season series against the Redbirds over the last five season (2011: 9-6; Memphis won the series 9-7 in 2010, 12-4 in 2009 and 9-7 in 2008). During that five-year stretch Omaha has a 35-44 record against Memphis, the only division opponent they have a losing record against entering this season in that span. The two teams split all four series last year.
LOUGH HITTING THE RECORD BOOKS : Outfielder David Lough extended his hitting streak to 12 games with his RBI single in last night's win, the longest streak by an Omaha player this season and tied for the second longest current streak (with Colorado Springs' DJ LeMahieu) behind Brett Pill's 13-game hitting streak for Fresno. During the streak, Lough is batting .491 (26-for-53) with 16 of his 24 runs. With the hit, Lough moved to 446 hits in his Omaha career, five hits away from Dave Cripe (1976-1979) for tenth place on the all-time hits list. Lough already ranks in the top-ten in runs (8th at 245), RBI (10th at 206) and is the franchise's all-time triples leader at 37.
ONE RUN WIN : Last night's 1-0 win in New Orleans was Omaha's first road 1-0 win since August 16, 2009 at Portland (Irving Falu scored the only run in that game in 2009). The Storm Chasers have the most one-run wins this season in the PCL at seven, as well as the best winning percentage (.778, 7-2 record) in one-run contests. Omaha was 19-19 in one-run games last season (tied for 9th best record in the PCL).
AWESOME IN APRIL, MEDIOCRE IN MAY : The Storm Chasers in three seasons have posted a 27-7 record in the month of April at Werner Park, but in the month of May the Storm Chasers are only 15-14 in the first two seasons. Omaha's only sub- .500 record in a month in the first two years of Werner Park is July (12-14 record).
