Moore's Effort Not Enough as Cats Fall, 11-5
May 3, 2013 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Sacramento River Cats News Release
FRESNO, Calif. - Scott Moore went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and his first home run of the year Thursday night, but the River Cats fell to Fresno in the series finale at Chukchansi Park, 11-5.
The River Cats fell behind early, allowing two first-inning runs, and never recovered. After Fresno stretched the lead to 4-0, the Cats cut the lead in half on a Stephen Vogt sacrifice fly and an RBI single by Moore.
But Fresno answered with three runs in the next two frames, and Moore's sixth-inning two-run shot was too little, too late for Sacramento. The River Cats still managed a series split, but they fell into a first-place tie with the Grizzlies at 15-13 overall.
Andrew Werner (2-4) started and took the loss, going 4.2 innings and giving up seven runs-all earned-on 10 hits. He struck out four and walked one.
The win went to Fresno starter Shane Loux, who improved to 2-1 on the season after holding the Cats to four earned runs in six innings.
Shane Peterson, Daric Barton and Jemile Weeks all doubled for the Cats, who have gone 14-7 in their last 21 games since starting the season 1-6.
The River Cats return home Friday for a four-game series against the Las Vegas 51s, Triple-A affiliate of the New York Mets, with fireworks scheduled for Friday and Saturday night. The series opener, scheduled for Friday at 7:05 p.m. at Raley Field, will feature a pitching matchup between Cats RHP Bruce Billings (1-1, 9.88 ERA) and 51s RHP Chris Schwinden (2-2, 6.08 ERA).
