Tacoma Rainiers News Release

Tacoma, WA - It happens. After the Salt Lake Bees (31-32) were held scoreless for the first three innings on Saturday night at Cheney Stadium, the visitors exploded for six runs in the fourth and 10 in the fifth, in a 16-4 win over the Tacoma Rainiers (33-29).

On May 13 during Salt Lake's most recent visit to Tacoma, the Rainiers scored 10 times in the seventh inning, the difference in a 15-5 win. Roughly two months later, the Bees would even things out.

Tacoma opened the scoring in the third inning with a one out Luis Liberato single, before Jake Hager smacked his third homer in two games to left field.

The 2-0 Rainiers lead was short-lived however, as the Bees soared in the fourth. Salt Lake strung together four hits and a walk to begin the inning, punctuated by a two-run Brennon Lund homer to cap a six-run frame for the visitors.

Tacoma's third run came in the fourth, when Jose Marmolejos led off with his 15th homer, his seventh home run in 10 games and his sixth dinger in seven starts. But the Bees continued to buzz in the fifth, scoring 10 more times, highlighted by a Jake Gatewood grand slam, his 16th homer of the season. Jo Adell later swatted his league-leading 19th homer, his second hit and run scored of the inning, as the Bees batted around for a 16-3 lead.

Marmolejos was responsible for evening's final run, stroking an RBI single in the sixth.

The Rainiers will return to action on Sunday, at 1:35 PT. LHP Ian McKinney will start for Tacoma, opposite fellow southpaw Brian Johnson for Salt Lake.
