Salmon Kings Sign D-Man Kris Fredheim

Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose, announced today that they have signed defenseman Kris Fredheim (FRED-haim). The 23-year-old was selected by the Vancouver Canucks in the sixth round (#185 overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.

The 6-2, 170 lb. Fredheim joins the Salmon Kings after completing a four-year college career with Colorado College. In 125 career games as a Tiger he recorded eight goals and 24 assists for 32 points with 126 penalty minutes. Including 16 points (4g-12a) and 46 penalty minutes in 36 games played during the 2009-10 season. He was named the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) Offensive Player of the Week in December during the 2008-09 season.

The Campbell River, BC native spent two seasons in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) with the Notre Dame Hounds prior to going to school. In 102 career games with Notre Dame he registered 52 points (14g-38a) and 103 minutes in penalties.

In the 2005-06 season with Notre Dame, Fredheim was voted SJHL Defenseman of the Year and was named a runner-up for the SJHL Player of the Year. He also is a former Defensive Player of the Year in the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League and played for Team Pacific at the 2004 Under-17 World Championships in Newfoundland.

The Salmon Kings and Bakersfield Condors kick-off their National Conference quarterfinal series this Wednesday at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre with game two following on Thursday.
