January 5, 2009 - ECHL (ECHL)
Victoria Salmon Kings News Release
Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose, announced today that Jeff Harris has been named the team's Assistant General Manager.
Harris is the team's Director of Media and Community Relations as well as the team's play-by-play man, and will see his role expanded to incorporate the assistant general manager's position. Harris will oversee the execution of business related duties within the hockey operations department.
"In building a successful organization it is important to have good people around you, Jeff is one of those people," Victoria Salmon Kings President Dave Dakers said. "In the year and a half that Jeff has been with the organization he has continually increased his responsibilities with the team. This additional title reflects that."
This new role for Harris is part of the continued restructuring of the hockey operations department, which saw Mark Morrison take over the general manager duties prior to the start of the season and Dan Belisle continuing in his role as Vice President of Hockey Operations
Last season was the 36-year-old's first year with the Salmon Kings. He was the co-winner of the ECHL's Media Relations Director of the Year award.
The Calgary native spent the 2006-07 season with the Western Hockey League's Calgary Hitmen as the team's Assistant Communications Coordinator.
This season marks Harris's 21st year involved in sports. Including his time in hockey he has also been employed in professional basketball (Calgary 88's - World Basketball League) and professional baseball (Vancouver Canadians - Pacific Coast League).
Harris earned a Bachelor's Degree in Applied Communication from Mount Royal College in Calgary.
The Salmon Kings welcome the Pacific Division leading Ontario Reign to the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre for games this Friday and Saturday. Victoria will look to continue to build on their 13-game win streak! Face off for both games will go at 7:05 p.m. Visit www.selectyourtickets.com for tickets.
