Delmarva Shorebirds News Release

SALISBURY, MD: The Delmarva Shorebirds (0-8) suffered their eighth straight defeat as they were shut out by the Salem Red Sox (5-3) by a score of 6-0 on Saturday night.

Starting pitchers Luis De León and Elmer Rodriguez traded zeroes on the scoreboard through the first three innings. The Red Sox eventually broke the stalemate in the fourth on a two-out, RBI double by Juan Montero to make it 1-0.

Salem would capitalize on defensive miscues by the Shorebirds in the fifth and score three runs to increase their lead to 4-0.

In the seventh, Jhostynxon Garcia doubled home the fifth run of the game for Salem. He would score a few moments later from third on a balk to put Delmarva behind 6-0.

The game's story was the dominance of Salem's pitching staff who held the Shorebirds' offense in check by limiting them to just three hits all night with no runs, completing a 6-0 shutout victory.

Trenner O'Donnell (1-0) earned the victory in relief for Salem with starting pitcher, Luis De León (0-1) taking the loss for the Shorebirds. Denis Reguillo (1) secured the save for Salem.

The Shorebirds will look to salvage the final game of the series on Sunday afternoon as Michael Forret makes his first start against Luis Cohen for the Red Sox. First pitch is slated for 2:05 p.m.
