The Salem Red Sox start a three-game series against the Lynchburg Hillcats tonight at 7:05pm! Gates to open at 6pm. Tuesday is another "Go Green, Save Green" Tuesday presented by TruGreen and Goodwill Industries of the Valley.
Fans can also receive 2-for-1 admission by donating items to Goodwill Industries of the Valley at the front gates. Every fan will receive a 2009 Salem Red Sox collector baseball card featuring outfielder Che-Hsuan Lin! Each card in the 2009 series features a "green tip" on the backside! Pack the Park for the ALS Association on Tuesday, August 18
ALS LogoTonight the Salem Red Sox will recognize the efforts of the ALS Association at Lewis-Gale Field.
For every ticket that is purchased as a walk-up (purchased outside the gates before the game) the Salem Red Sox will donate $.50 to the ALS Association, so make sure to come out to enjoy a great game and support a great cause.

Salem Helps out the Big Club: Salem Sox SS Traded for Alex Gonzalez

Infielder Kris Negron has been traded to the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for big league shortstop Alex Gonzalez. The 23-year-old Negron was batting .264 on the season with 20 stolen bases. He provided defensive stability throughout the season with the loss of infielders Aaron Reza and Yamaico Navarro to injury for much of the year.
GonzoGonzalez, 32, joined the Boston Red Sox last week At the time of the trade, Gonzalez was batting .210 with three home runs and 26 RBI in 68 games for the Reds at shortstop. The veteran had only committed 6 errors all season and ranked 8th among Major League shortstops in fielding percentage (.977).
Sox Slugger Mike Jones Earns Carolina League Player of the Week Honors Jones.462 (12-26), 10 R, 4 2B, 1 HR, 7 RBI, 4 BB, 2 SO, 0 SB, .731 SLG
Mike Jones Has been selected as the Carolina League Offensive Player of the week by Minor League Baseball for the week ending August 16th.
Jones started the week by scoring four runs and doubling on Tuesday as part of a double header in Myrtle Beach and doubled twice more, picked up four more RBIs and scored twice on Wednesday. Jones scored a run in six of seven games throughout the week.
