The Salem Red Sox look for the series sweep of the Wilmington Blue Rocks tonight at LewisGale Field. First pitch is at 7:05.

We Must Protect Our House : The Salem Sox look to complete the sweep of the Wilmington Blue Rocks tonight at LewisGale Field. Sa- lem is 4-1 on the homestand, continuing the team's dominance in the Roanoke Valley. Salem is 23-17 at home and 15-24 on the road. More specifically, the Sox are 9-3 at home in June and just 2-11 on the road this month. This trend is more amazing considering it's the op- posite of the way the Sox started 2014. Salem began this season 9-3 on the road and just 2-5 at home. After last night's win, the Sox have taken 21 of 33 at home and dropped 21 of 27 away from Salem Me- morial Ballpark. The Sox will head out on a six game road trip to Frederick and Carolina after tonight's game.

Impossible is Nothing : On June 29 2013, Mookie Betts had yet to make his Advanced-A debut with the Salem Sox. On June 29, 2014, Mookie Betts was starting in right field at Yankee Stadium on nation- al television. Betts went 1-3 with a walk and scored a run in his major league debut last night for the Boston Red Sox in an 8-5 victory over the Yankees. Betts was part of a Boston outfield last night that fea- tured three former Salem Sox, with Daniel Nava (Jun-Aug 2009) in left and Jackie Bradley Jr. (April-June 2012) in center. Mookie's start in right field last night was just the third time in his professional career that he played that position. Betts had only started a handful of games in the entire outfield between Portland and Pawtucket in his career.

Just Do It : On paper, it was as difficult a stretch of opposing starting pitchers as the Carolina League has to offer. On the field though, it was no problem at all. The Salem Sox came out of a stretch against four of the leagues best starting pitchers (Morimando, Merritt, Dziedzic, and Binford) 3-1. The four came into this week a combined 24-11 with a 2.40 ERA, with each holding a sub-two June ERA. And while the Sox may not have pounced on the quartet, they did enough to chase Shawn Morimando with a no-decision Thursday, and beat Jonathan Dziedzic and Christian Binford over the weekend. Ryan Merritt was the lone starter to get a win against Salem this weekend, allowing just a lone earned run in seven and a third Friday night.

Is it In You : While the buzz was about Salem's opposing starters the last week, it's been the Sox staff that has been the story. In five games on this homestand, Salem's staff ERA is a minuscule 1.40 (7 ER/45 IP). Salem starters have been equally as good, posting a 1.71 ERA of their own in the same time span ( 5 ER/26.1 IP). Ironically enough, Salem starters through the exact same number of innings through the first five games of the homestand as they did in six road games to open the second half (at Winston-Salem and at Potoamc). But the production level in those 26.1 IP has been drastically differ- ent. While Sox starters have allowed just 5 earned runs in the five games at home, Salem starters surrendered 34 runs in the six games on the road, amassing a 11.62 ERA (34 ER/26.1 IP). The Red Sox rec- ord has backed up these numbers, with Salem at 4-1 on the homestand and just 1-5 on the opening road trip.
