The Volcanoes defeated the Everett AquaSox 8-7 in a wild game Friday night in front of 3,029 fans at Volcanoes Stadium.

Salem-Keizer exploded for eight runs on 13 hits but needed every last one of them, as the AquaSox seemed to answer nearly every score.

The AquaSox took an early lead, scoring two runs in the first, but Salem-Keizer came roaring back the very next half inning. Everett starter Darin Gillies (1-2, 5.13 ERA) struck out Steven Duggar to begin the frame but then allowed eight of the next nine batters to reach, plating seven runs. Miguel Gomez, Fernando Pujadas, John Riley, and Duggar all picked up RBIs as the Volcanoes completed their biggest inning of the season and emerged with a 7-2 advantage.

Everett refused to go away quietly though, scratching across two runs in the second. Ronnie Jebavy responded with a solo home run the next half inning - his second in as many days - to extend the Volcanoes lead to 8-4. The AquaSox promptly answered with three more runs in the third, however, to cut the deficit to 8-7.

In total, the two teams combined for 15 runs, 18 hits, five errors, three stolen bases, two wild pitches and a balk through three innings of play.

Salem-Keizer's bullpen tamed the Everett attack throughout the contest's next four innings, scattering just three hits. Reliever David Owen looked poised to chalk up another scoreless frame in the eighth, collecting two outs with a runner at first, before Shawn O'Malley blasted a fly ball to center that looked destined to soar over center fielder Jebavy's head. Jebavy went racing back and made a lunging catch up against the wall, however, saving a run and preserving the Volcanoes slim advantage.

Caleb Smith then fired a scoreless ninth to secure his fourth save of the season and clinch the series for Salem-Keizer. Reliever Luis Pino (3-0, 0.00 ERA), who stabilized the game after a wild first few innings, picked up the win for the Volcanoes.
