Saints Will Have Two Carr's to Choose From, Sign Pitcher Nick Carr

ST. PAUL, MN (July 28, 2012) - The St. Paul Saints will rev up their pitching engines as they attempt to make a playoff push. Already having a Carr on the staff in left-hander Kyle Carr, the Saints have signed right-handed pitcher Nick Carr to a surging pitching staff.

The 25-year old Nick Carr was pitching for the Winnipeg Goldeyes (Independent, American Association) this season and was 1-0 with a 5.06 ERA and four saves in 11 relief appearances. In 10.2 innings he walked five and struck out 11. He began the season by throwing five consecutive perfect relief appearances (5.0 IP) and earning three saves over that span from May 18-25.

Carr was a 41st round draft pick by the New York Mets in the 2005 June Amateur Draft out of Twin Falls High School in Twin Falls, Idaho. He began his career as a starter with the Mets and of his 54 career starts, 50 came in his first three professional seasons with the Mets from 2006-08. He reached High-A St. Lucie in the Florida State League in 2008 and then again in 2009, when he was converted to a reliever. His best season came last season when he split time between the Gulf Coast Mets (Rookie), Brooklyn Cyclones (Low-A) and St. Lucie. He was a Florida State League All-Star with St. Lucie going 3-0 with a 2.40 ERA and a career high eight saves. In 30.0 innings he walked 14 and struck out 34.

Carr, who had Tommy John surgery in 2009, has an upper 90s fastball that has touched triple digits at times and has nearly a strike out per inning pitched over his career (357.0 innings pitched/344 strikeouts) with nearly a 2:1 strikeout to walk ratio (344:180).

In order to make room for Carr the Saints placed outfielder Willie Cabrera on the disabled list retroactive to July 25. The Saints roster stands at the league maximum of 22, 11 pitchers and 11 position players with two on the injured list and one on the inactive list.
