Laredo Lemurs News Release
Laredo, TX - Mark Wagner's two run homerun in the top of the sixth gives the Wichita Wingnuts (38-29) the 3-2 victory over the Laredo Lemurs (31-34) Saturday night at Uni-Trade Stadium.
With the Lemurs up 2-1 and one out in the top of the sixth, the Wingnuts sent their newest acquisition, Wilberto Ortiz to the plate. Ortiz hit a ground ball to the Lemurs third baseman Anthony Scelfo, Scelfo backed up on the ball and it hit off the heal of his mitt, rolling into shallow left for an error.
The following batter John Rodriguez flew out to center to creat two outs, then another new Wingnut, Mark Wagner stepped to the plate and lined a homer over the left field wall to put the Wingnuts up 3-2.
Wingnuts starting pitcher Anthony Capra (1-1) continued into the bottom of the sixth with the lead, he gave up a base hit in the inning, but otherwise still looked great. Capra earned the win on the night, throwing six, giving up two runs, while walking two, and striking out six.
The Wingnuts bullpen shutdown the Lemurs for three straight, with James Baker throwing a three up, three down seventh, followed by a Nick Walters strong outing through two innings of relief, to earn his second save of the year.
Mark Haynes (3-4) took the tough loss for the Lemurs going seven and third, giving up three runs, on three hits, walking three, and striking out six.
The Lemurs will play the final game of this home stand Sunday July 29th. They will then hit the road for an 11 game trip that will take them to Lincoln, Nebraska, Grand Prairie, Texas, and El Paso, Texas, for their longest trip of the year. You can get tickets at the Laredo Lemurs box office, online at www.laredolemurs.com, or by phone at 956-7LEMURS. All games at Uni-Trade Stadium are set for 7:30pm.
