Saints Week in Review
February 23, 2004 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
San Angelo Saints News Release
Coming Up This Week â The Saints play two road games this week as the rodeo continues in the San Angelo Coliseum. The Saints will play in Austin on Friday night and in Oklahoma City on Saturday.
Upcoming Promotions â The Saints' next home game is not until March 5th. So far the team has that game scheduled as a Season Ticket Redemption Night where season ticket holders can turn in any previously unused season tickets for free tickets to the game. Also, Area Wide Phonebook will be tossing free gifts into the crowd during the 1st intermission.
Streaks â The Saints remain one of the hottest teams in the CHL with a 7-2-1 record in their last 10-games. The Saints have also won 5 straight home games, 2 straight road games and 4 straight games overall. Tyler Knight has an 8-game point-scoring streak intact (4G, 6A). Chris Minard (11G, 3A) and Trevor Weisgerber (5G, 8A) have 7-game point-scoring streaks.
Playoffs/Records â With their win over Odessa on Saturday the Saints became just the 2nd team in the CHL to clinch a playoff berth. If the Saints can win 7 of their final 10 games, they will tie the all-time San Angelo wins record of 39 set back in the WPHL days of 1998-99 when teams played 70 games. Four more wins for goaltender Scott Reid will also tie the franchise mark of 31 wins set by Chad Erickson in the 70-game 1998-99 season.
Week In Review â The Saints went 2-0-0 this week with road wins over Fort Worth and Odessa.
Feb. 20th / San Angelo 8 - Fort Worth 2 / Chris Minard, Trevor Weisgerber and Jarett Metz each had 3-point games for the Saints as they cruised past the Brahmas on Friday night in Fort Worth. The Brahmas actually led the game 1-0, but the Saints scored 4 goals each in the 1st and 2nd periods to put the game out of reach. Both teams showed lots of class in the 3rd period with the Saints not running up the score and the Brahmas not resorting to cheap shot tactics. Kevin Vandewater, Ryan Finnerty, Matt Frick and Konrad Brand also had multi-point games for the Saints. Scott Reid notched 23 saves for his 26th win of the season.
Feb. 21st / San Angelo 5 - Odessa 4 / In a see-saw game, Tyler Knight scored the tying and winning goals in the 3rd period to lead the Saints over the Jacks for the 8th time in 11 meetings this season. The Saints had a seemingly comfortable 3-1 lead midway through the 2nd period, when the Jacks ran off three straight goals to take a 4-3 lead into the 3rd period. But, Knight slapped a knuckler past Jacks' goalie Mike Gorman to tie the game and finished off a perfect 2-on-1 for the game winner midway through the 3rd period. Scott Reid ha 40 saves for his 27th win of the season.
Player Moves: Scott Lega joined Dusty Hunter and Dan Reja on Season Ending Injured Reserve last week. John Jarram remains on the 45-day IR. Scott Mahar and Steve Roberts remain on the 14-day IR, but could come off the injured list during the upcoming 7-day road trip. Jarram could also be available soon.
