Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
INDY SNEAKS PAST MUDBUGS â Chad McIver scored with two minutes remaining in regulation as the Indianapolis Ice handed the Mudbugs their first loss on home ice since November 25th, 3-2 in front of 4,109 fans at the CenturyTel Center on Friday night. The loss broke the Mudbugs' five-game winning streak and was just their third regulation home defeat of the season. The Bugs and Ice traded goals in each of the first two periods with Jim Sprott and Chad Spurr striking for Bossier-Shreveport. Both teams battled throughout the third period in the 2-2 deadlock until Ryan Carter centered a pass in front for breaking defenseman Chad McIver who banged in his third goal of the season and second against the Mudbugs.
LARGEST CROWD IN TEAM HISTORY â In front of a franchise record crowd of 10,181 fans, the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs suffered their second consecutive home loss as they fell to the Colorado Eagles on Saturday night at the CenturyTel Center 4-3. The Eagles struck on their first three power play chances in the game with goals from Mike McGhan, Riley Nelson, and Greg Pankewicz to take a 3-2 lead into the third period. The Mudbugs got goals from David Oliver and Chad Spurr to remain tight with the Northwest Division leaders. However, in the third period, Pankewicz deked to the forehand on a breakaway to beat goaltender Ken Carroll for the go-ahead goal with 5:33 left in regulation time. The Mudbugs mounted a frantic attack in the game's final minutes, but failed to beat Eagles goaltender Ryan Bach, who finished the night with 35 saves.
BELECKI SLAMS THE DOOR â Austin Ice Bats goaltender Brent Belecki made 42 saves to hand the Mudbugs their third consecutive loss on Sunday afternoon, 2-1 at the Travis County Expo Center. The loss marked just the second time this season that the Mudbugs have lost three games in a row and dropped their overall record to 36-13-4. Gerald Tallaire gave the Bats an early 1-0 first period lead, but Trevor Buchanan grabbed a loose puck at the edge of the Austin crease early in the second period on the power play and tapped it past Belecki for his tenth goal of the season. In the third, Pat Brownlee took a pass from the corner and beat goaltender Jeff Blair for the game-winning strike on the power play.
