Weisgerber, Guerrera take weekly awards

The Central Hockey League today named San Angelo left winger Trevor Weisgerber and Laredo netminder David Guerrera as the recipients of the Bauer/Nike CHL Player of the Week and the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week awards for Week 19 of the CHL season. San Angelo's Weisgerber earns Bauer/Nike Player of the Week honors after recording a pair of three point games in two Saints victories, while Laredo's Guerrera allowed just a single goal against in two Bucks wins. With 20 days remaining in the CHL regular season, only Weisgerber's Saints and Guerrera's Bucks have officially clinched a berth in the Ray Miron President's Cup playoffs.
Weisgerber and the Saints recorded road wins in Fort Worth and Odessa over the weekend to guarantee a playoff berth, and the Saskatchewan native figured prominently in both victories. Weisgerber had a pair of goals and an assist in an 8-2 win in Fort Worth February 20th, then added his 21st goal of the season and two more assists the following evening in a 5-4 win at Odessa. The 24-year old Weisgerber is in his second season of professional hockey, and has already surpassed last season's totals of 19 goals, 24 assists and 43 points.
Guerrera and the Bucks continued their terrific season with road wins at Corpus Christi and Austin over the weekend. Friday evening the 21-year old Guerrera turned in his fourth shutout performance of the year by making 33 saves in a 6-0 win at Corpus Christi, then made 42 stops the following evening in a 2-1 win in Austin. With a record of 24-3-3, Guerrera leads all CHL goaltenders with a 1.94 goals against average and a 93.6 save percentage. A first-year pro coming out of Wayne State University, Guerrera is a strong candidate for CHL Rookie of the Year honors.
