Saints Trade for Infileder and Sign Veteran White

ST. PAUL, MN (August 10, 2007) - The St. Paul Saints continue to make moves in order to strengthen their roster as they make a push for the second half North Division title. They traded infielder Alex Fonseca to the Schaumburg Flyers in exchange for speedy infielder Demetrius Heath and also signed free agent veteran outfielder Derrick White.

The 26-year-old Heath was hitting .318 with three homers and 22 RBI in 68 games for the Flyers this season. In 283 at-bats he had 10 doubles, two triples, scored 57 runs and swiped 26 bases in 37 attempts. Last season Heath had mind boggling numbers on the base paths swiping 71 bags in 90 attempts for the Atlantic City Surf.

Heath was a 31st round pick of the Detroit Tigers in the 2000 June Amateur draft and reached Single-A Lakeland in 2002. In seven professional seasons Heath has swiped 240 bases.

Fonseca was hitting .221 with four homers and 28 RBI in 50 games for the Saints this season. In 163 at-bats he had five doubles, scored 28 runs and swiped 15 out of 16 bases.

The Saints also signed a familiar face in the 37-year-old White who played for the Saints at the end of last season when he hit .364 with three homers and nine RBI in eight games. In 33 at-bats he had four doubles, scored 10 runs and slugged .758.

White spent this season with Tijuana of the Mexican League where he hit .358 with 19 homers and 75 RBI in 103 games. In 363 at-bats he had 25 doubles, one triple and scored 73 runs.

White was selected by the Montreal Expos in the sixth round of the 1991 June Amateur draft. He made it to the Major Leagues with the Expos in 1993 and played 76 games with the Expos, Detroit Tigers (‘95), Chicago Cubs (‘98) and Colorado Rockies (‘98).

The Saints also placed Adam Bourassa on the disabled list.

The Saints roster now sits at 20 players, 9 pitchers and 11 position players. The Saints can carry a maximum of 22 players per league rules.
