St. Paul Saints News Release

ST. PAUL, MN (August 10, 2007) - Marc Mirizzi will forever live in St. Paul Saints lore for the grand slam he hit in the championship game in 2004, but on Friday night he came back as the foe of the Saints playing for the Fort Worth Cats and came through big in a 5-3 Saints loss at Midway Stadium in front of 6,010.

Mirizzi didn't waste any time, blasting a two-run homer over the left field wall in the first inning, off of Adam Brandenburg, his eighth of the season.

Mirizzi came calling in the second inning as he followed an RBI single from Terence Green with an RBI single of his own. Mirizzi finished the night 3-4 with a homer, three RBI and a run scored.

With the Saints trailing 4-0, they got on the board in the third when Scooter Jordan walked, went to third on a single by Skip Adams and scored on Derrick White's sacrifice fly.

White came calling again in the sixth inning with a solo homer over the center field wall, his first with the Saints, to cut the lead to 4-2.

The Saints got to within a run in the eighth when Demetrius Heath led off with a single and stole second. He scored on a Jordan single to left. After Adams sacrificed Jordan to second the Cats intentionally walked White. With the tying run at second reliever Tim Vazquez got Marcel Longmire to strike out and Brian Sprout to pop out to end the threat.

The same two teams meet Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. The Saints send RHP Charlie Ruud (9-3, 3.80) to the mound against Cats RHP Lee Gwaltney (5-2, 3.23). The game can be seen on KSTC-TV, Channel 45 and heard on KBGY 107.5 FM. It is Aulmni Night presented by Granny's Kitchen's Famous Fudge Puppies.
