Saints Topple Metro Minny All-Stars 12-4

ANOKA, MN (May 10, 2014) - The St. Paul Saints continued to swing the bats well and got an impressive relief appearance from starter Rob Coe as they defeated the Metro Minny All-Stars 12-4 on Saturday afternoon at Castle Field in Anoka.

The Saints sent 10 men to the plate in the first inning and scored four runs as they cashed in on three walks and an error. Brandon Wikoff led the game off with a walk and Buddy Sosnoskie followed with an RBI double to give the Saints a 1-0 lead. With the bases loaded and one out Joe Bonfe knocked in a run when he reached on an error by the shortstop. With the score 3-0 Andy Henkemeyer doubled in a run.

The All-Stars responded over the next two innings to tie the game at four. In the bottom of the first they loaded the bases on a hit by pitch, a walk and a single by Casey Vankrevelen. Matt Marek's RBI groundout made it 4-1.

In the second Kyle Young led off with a triple. He scored on a one out single by Luther Kangas to make it 4-2. With two on and two out Jeff Brooks knotted the game at four with a two-run double.

It was all Saints after that and they got stellar pitching from Coe who entered the game in the fifth. He dominated in 5.0 innings of work allowing just a two out double in the eighth. He faced one over the minimum and struck out six.

The Saints took the lead for good in the third when Devin Thaut was hit by a pitch, Carlos Escobar walked with two outs and Wikoff singled home Thaut giving the Saints a 5-4 lead. Wikoff finished the game 3-4 with a double, three RBI and a run scored.

Thaut also had a solid game going 2-4 with two doubles, three RBI and three runs scored.

The Saints have two more exhibition games remaining and are in Sioux Falls on Sunday evening at 6:00 p.m. to take on the Canaries. They finish the exhibition season with an 11:00 a.m. contest against the Canaries on Monday.
