
Saints squeak by Brahmas 3-2

The San Angelo Saints were one goal better than the Fort Worth Brahmas on Saturday night, defeating the Brahmas 3-2 in front of 2,116 fans at the San Angelo Coliseum in San Angelo, Texas.
Forwards Chris Robertson, Trevor Weisgerber, and Nathan Rosychuk scored goals in the game for the Saints. Robertson and Weisgerber scored in the first period of play as the Saints jumped out to a 2-0 lead, then Rosychuk netted what proved to be the game winning goal midway through the second period.
Left wing Chad Woollard and center Benoit Genesse scored in the loss for the Brahmas. Woollard and Genesse lit the lamp in the second period of play, as the Brahmas clawed to within 3-2. Neither team was able to score in the third period, and the Saints escaped with a one goal home ice victory in regulation.
Saint netminder Scott Reid won his 30th game of the season by stopping 27 of the 29 Fort Worth shots that he faced. Rookie goaltender Larry Sterling took the loss for the Brahmas, allowing the three San Angelo goals on 24 shots.
The loss, Fort Worth's fifth in a row, puts the Brahmas on the brink of being eliminated from playoff contention in the CHL's Northern Conference. The defeat leaves the Brahmas with a 25-25-6 record on the season. San Angelo improves to 31-20-6 for the year, and the Saints strengthened their grip on a Southern Conference playoff spot with the win.
Fort Worth will try to snap their losing streak this Tuesday night, March 15, when they travel to Odessa to take on the Odessa Jackalopes.
