RiverKings playoffs hopes take big hit with loss to Blazers
March 13, 2005 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Mississippi RiverKings News Release
OKLAHOMA CITY â In a game that definitely had a playoff atmosphere, it was one team improving their chances and one that was left barley breathing. The Oklahoma City Blazers' 4-2 win over the Memphis RiverKings has left the âKings playoff chances on life support while the Blazers moved to within two points of Tulsa for the last playoff spot.
Memphis fell behind 3-1 in the first period on Blazers goals by former RiverKing Kahlil Thomas, Michel Beausoleil, and Brad Herauf. Herauf's goal was a painful late first period goal at 19:17. Ted Crowley had put the RiverKings on the board with his 13th of the season at 18:18 only to have Herauf make it 3-1 after one.
J.F. Racine played brilliantly in goal as he replaced starter David Lemanowicz after the first period. Racine made 25 saves on 25 shots to keep the score 3-1 through the second period.
Don Parsons took little time to make it 3-2 on a power play in the third. His goal at :24 was his league leading 50th of the season and lifted the RiverKings' spirits. Parsons has now scored 50 or more goals in six season, four with Memphis.
Memphis had several good chances to tie it the rest of the way including what looked like a Wayne Hall rebound goal just shy of the mid-way point of the third period. But after conferring with the goal judge, referee Paul Mariconda called it a no-goal and play continued with score at 3-2.
Garrett Prosofsky's empty net goal with 15 seconds put it away.
Memphis fell back to .500 at 27-27-2. Oklahoma City improved to 25-21-11 and more importantly are just two points back of the Oilers after their loss to Bosseir-Shreveport.
Memphis plays the final road game of their regular season tomorrow at Topeka. Game time is 4:00 with pregame at 3:45 on Sports 56-WHBQ
