St. Paul Saints News Release
ST. PAUL, MN (May 26, 2007) - The St. Paul Saints are short on pitching due to injuries and in order to shore up their bullpen they looked just around the corner to Hamline University, signing right-handed pitcher Kyle Foster.
The 21 year-old Foster finished his 2007 campaign with the Pipers at 7-5 with a 3.25 ERA in 15 games, 11 starts. He tossed five complete games and two shutouts while pitching 69.1 innings, walking 19 and striking out 65. Foster was named to the All-MIAC first team this season and was an honorable mention in 2006.
"Kyle is a good young pitcher that Jason Verdugo had a chance to manage the last four seasons," said Saints Manager George Tsamis. "We look for him to come in here and contribute out of our bullpen."
The Saints also released right-handed pitcher John Howerton and outfielder Jay Davis. Howerton was 1-0, 6.43 in six appearances out of the bullpen. In 14.0 innings he walked eight and struck out seven while the opposition hit .383 against him.
Davis hit .289 with no homers and nine RBI in 10 games. All 13 hits for Davis were singles and he drew two walks while striking out eight times.
The Saints roster is now at 20 players, nine pitchers and 11 position players, two below the league maximum of 22 players.
