St. Paul Saints News Release

ST. PAUL, MN - The St. Paul Saints didn't learn from history as they blew a seven run lead for the second time in three nights losing to the Sioux Falls Canaries 11-8 as they scored 10 runs in the fifth inning at Midway Stadium in front of 4,810.

The Saints jumped out to a 7-0 lead and watched the wheels completely fall off in the fifth inning. Saints starter Adam Brandenburg cruised through the first four innings allowing one hit and then lost all concept of the strike zone in the fifth. He gave up a lead off homer to Ben Van Iderstine to make it 7-1. Matt Imwalle singled and then Brandenburg walked four straight Canries hitters. Jason Cierlik came in out of the bullpen and promptly unleashed three wild pitches leading to a couple of runs. Cierlik walked a couple and gave up a single and then gave up a grand slam homer to Imwalle which capped off the 10 run inning. Brandenburg was charged with six runs on three hits in 4.0 innings while walking four and striking out four.

It was enough to demoralize the Saints as they managed just three hits over the final five innings.

The Saints got three runs in the first on an RBI single from Adam Olow, a fielder's choice ground out by Brian Sprout and an RBI single from Josue Lopez.

The Saints added to their lead in the second when Adam Bourassa singled to left. He left the game with a twisted ankle when he went back to first awkwardly on a throw over from the pitcher. Ryan Priddy pinch ran and went to second on a wild pitch and scored when Olow's grounder to short was thrown away.

The Saints added a run in the third on a solo homer from Lopez, his third of the season, and added two more in the fourth on an RBI double by Marcel Longmire and he later scored on a throwing error by shortstop Angelo Fermin that made it 7-0.

The same two teams meet again Sunday night at 7:05 p.m. The Saints send LHP Jake Postlewait (2-1, 2.00) to the hill against Canaries RHP Jeff Landing (3-0, 1.47).
