St. Paul Saints News Release

SIOUX FALLS, SD (June 15, 2007) - There are nights where everything comes together and Friday night was one of those evenings for the St. Paul Saints as they scored six runs in the first and cruised to a 10-1 victory over the Sioux Falls Canaries at Sioux Falls Stadium.

The Saints sent 11 men to the plate in the first and it began with a lead off walk to Scooter Jordan. After he stole second and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Matt Brunson, Brent Krause extended his hitting streak to 17 games with an RBI single to right-center. Marcel Longmire reached on the big play of the inning, when third baseman Matt Imwalle backed up on his grounder and bobbled the ball which allowed Longmire to reach on the error. Brian Sprout followed with an RBI single. With two outs the Saints added back-to-back RBI singles from the newest Saint, Skip Adams, and Alex Fonseca. Jordan finished the scoring in the inning with a two-run single to make it 6-0.

That was more than enough for Saints starter Charlie Ruud. With just six healthy pitchers on the roster the Saints needed Ruud to turn in a quality start and he did more than that going 7.2 innings allowing one run on five hits while walking one and striking out seven, throwing 128 pitched and picking up his fourth win of the season.

Eight of the nine Saints collected at least one hit while six of those eight had two hits en route to 14 on the evening. Seven different players scored a run for the Saints.

The same two teams meet Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. at Sioux Falls Stadium. The Saints send LHP Jake Postlewait (4-3, 3.22) to the mound against Canaries RHP Pat Mahomes (5-0, 1.83). The game can be heard live on KBGY 107.5 FM.
