St. Paul Saints News Release

SIOUX CITY, IA (August 3, 2010) - St. Paul Saints starter Ryan Morse had seen this story before: pitch a strong game, but get no support against the Sioux City Explorers as he lost for the second time this season to the Explorers 2-1 on Tuesday night at Lewis and Clark Park.

Morse gave up base hits to the first three hitters he faced in the bottom of the first and settled down after that, but those three hits were enough to do him in. Eric Williams led off with a single to center and Derek Schermerhorn followed with a double down the third base line to put runners at second and third. TJ Bohn singled them both home making it 2-0. Morse would put up goose eggs over the next six innings going 7.0 strong allowing two runs on seven hits while walking two and striking out two, but took the hard luck loss. He did the same thing back on June 15 throwing 7.0 strong allowing two runs, but lost 2-1.

The Saints offense was silent until the fifth when Brent Krause led off with an infield single to second. He stole second and scored on a Gerard Haran RBI single to cut the deficit to one. Explorers starter Chad Povich didn't allow anything else going 7.0 innings allowing one run on four hits while walking two and striking out four.

The Saints didn't have a runner reach second base again until the ninth against David Trahan. With one out Edgard Clemente singled to left. Krause followed with a walk putting runners at first and second. Brad Miller hit a deep fly to center for the second out and Clements tagged and went to third. Haran, however, finished the game by striking out.

The same two teams meet in the finale of the three game series on Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. at Lewis and Clark Park. The Saints send RHP Jason Godin (6-3, 4.33) to the mound against Explorers LHP David Welch (5-5, 4.18). The game can be heard on Relevant Radio 1330.
