Wichita Wingnuts News Release
WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Wingnuts acquired right-handed pitcher Bubba O'Donnell from the Atlantic League's Newark Bears on Tuesday.
An Atlantic Leauge All-Star in 2010, O'Donnell was 4-5 for the Bears with a 4.36 ERA in 10 starts and 10 relief appearances. The 24-year old righty struck out 48 in 76.1 IP while allowing 82 hits and 28 walks. A native of Vineland, NJ, O'Donnell was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 34th round in 2008 out of High Point University in North Carolina.
O'Donnell joins the Wingnuts in exchange for a player to be named later and is expected to take Nick Singleton's spot in the rotation tonight at Shreveport-Bossier. Singleton was placed on the Inactive List retroactive to July 30th after suffering an injury to his pitching hand while fielding a groundball last Thursday at Pensacola. Singleton currently leads the American Association with a 2.36 ERA and has allowed two or fewer earned runs in 12 of his 14 starts.
The Wingnuts also signed switch-hitting catcher Kent Wright who was with the team earlier this year in Spring Training. Wright takes over for Michael Sharp who injured his glove hand on Saturday at Pensacola on a foul tip.
The Wingnuts continue their series tonight at Shreveport-Bossier at 7:05 p.m. The newly signed O'Donnell faces Captains' left-hander Ryan DiPietro. All the action can be heard live on Oldies 93.5 KWME and worldwide at www.kleyam.com following the completion of the 5:00 p.m. game of the BaseballSavings.com 76th annual NBC World Series. The Wingnuts next play at home on Saturday, August 14th when they host the Sioux Falls Pheasants. For tickets, call the Wingnuts' office at (316) 264-NUTS.
