Garcia, Martin American Association Players of the Week

DURHAM, NC - The American Association of Independent Professional Baseball announced today that Shreveport-Bossier INF Christopher Garcia (pictured) and Grand Prairie RHP Chris Martin have been named the Pointstreak Batter and Pitcher of the Week. The selection was made by Pointstreak, the official statistician of the American Association.
Garcia played in five games and recorded a scorching 12 hits in 22 at-bats, good for a .545 batting average. The 2010 All-Star Game MVP tallied 11 RBI throughout the week, and clubbed two doubles and two home runs to post an impressive .909 slugging percentage. Garcia had a hit in every game in which he played. The 22-year-old is batting .377 on the season (2nd in the league) with 11 home runs and 73 RBI (T-2nd in the league).
Martin provided vital innings out of the pen for Grand Prairie in two come-from-behind wins against El Paso last week. The right-handed reliever came on in the 7th inning of a one-run game July 30th and threw three perfect innings, striking out four batters in the process. The 24-year-old was then called upon two days later to stop the bleeding for Grand Prairie in the 6th inning, with the team already down 9-8. Martin responded with 2.2 shutout innings, allowing just a single base hit and striking out three. The AirHogs rallied to complete their sweep of the Diablos, and Martin was rewarded with his second relief victory in the series. The Arlington, TX resident is 2-0 with a 2.25 ERA on the season, striking out 10 batters in 12 innings of work.
