St. Paul Saints News Release

ST. PAUL, MN (July 8, 2013) - All good things must come to an end, unfortunately, for the St. Paul Saints that meant their home win streak. They lost on Monday night at Midway Stadium 5-2 to the Kansas City T-Bones in front of 4,005, snapping their seven game home winning streak.

With the game scoreless in the third Joey Gathright singled with one out. Kennard Jones followed with a single to put runners at first and second. Then a moment of controversy occurred when Devin Goodwin swung and missed at a pitch in the dirt that would have been strike three. The home plate umpire ruled Goodwin had tipped the ball and despite manager George Tsamis' argument the call stood. Goodwin took advantage of his second life with an RBI single to left to make it 1-0 T-Bones. Matt Padgett and Kyle Nichols then each followed with RBI singles to make it 3-0.

The score remained that way until the fourth when Brad Boyer led off with a double for the Saints. Willie Cabrera singled him to third and Brandon Tripp's sacrifice fly made it 3-1.

The T-Bones answered right back in the fifth when Padgett doubled. Nichols followed with an RBI single to make it 4-1.

The T-Bones scored their final run in the seventh when Goodwin and Padgett walked with two outs. Nichols came through again with an RBI single. He finished the night 3-5 with three RBI. Saints starter Anthony Claggett lasted 7.0 innings allowing five runs on 10 hits while walking four and striking out three.

The Saints scored their final run in the bottom of the seventh when Dwight Childs doubled with two outs. Dan Kaczrowski tripled off the glove of a diving Kody Hightower in left to score Childs. Childs finished the night 3-4 with a double and a run scored.

The same two teams meet tomorrow afternoon at 1:05 p.m. in the finale of the four game series at Midway Stadium. The Saints send RHP Dylan Thomas (0-2, 14.81) to the mound against T-Bones RHP Shaun Garceau (2-6, 4.66). It is a Midway Matinee. The game can be heard on Club 1220 AM and in the ballpark on 87.9 FM.
